In the press
Simon Hayward has directed another thought-provoking work of serious theater. Some plays make you feel, some make you think and this play does both.
Hayward’s production offers an opportunity to encounter Wilde not simply as the witty author often remembered from quotations and literary history, but as a complicated man caught in a rapidly escalating legal and personal crisis. By the end, the audience has watched a celebrated public figure move from prominence to imprisonment in the span of months, and is left to consider what was really on trial.
This production is sure to be an interesting and educational docudrama for anyone who knows about Oscar Wilde or would like to know more.
